Armstrong Growers is an Employee-owned, wholesale bedding plant grower located in Southern California; it is a division of Armstrong Garden Centers, Inc. We operate five growing facilities in San Marcos, Santa Paula, Oxnard, Fallbrook, and Bermuda Dunes, CA serving Independent Garden Centers throughout California, Arizona, New Mexico, Utah, Nevada, and Texas.

Summary

We are currently hiring for an experienced IT/Database Administrator to oversee our systems platform as well as support our internal teams. This position also collaborates closely with both the SBI Engineers as well as Axicom; IT Consultants & Cybersecurity partner.

In the future, this position will also be tasked with onboarding and supporting our east-coast growing operation (Pike Farm Nursery) as we introduce the SBI Operating platform to that division.

While SBI/Axicom knowledge is preferred, experience with general corporate operating platforms is welcomed.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with and supports all departments within Armstrong Growers and soon Pike Farm Nursery with: Inventory Control, Sales, Operations, Shipping, Production, Accounting to ensure efficiency for each of their modules.
  • Troubleshoot any/all system/IT issues that can arise with SBI/Axicom on a priority basis.
  • Assist SBI and Axicom when onboarding new sites or equipment as growth and system improvements continues.
  • Manages any ongoing system "cases" for correction / improvement; keep the Management Team informed on progress.
  • Oversees the company database which is detailed including customers, products and inventory
  • Collaborates closely with Production in product creation, pricing and implementing within the system
  • Works closely with our VP/GM on annual price increase implementation and maintains the pricing system recently developed.
  • Works with Production/Sales to keep custom, SKU, UPC and Tax details current.
  • Monitors the health and functionality of the SBI database and troubleshoots minor issues before escalating. Monitors open SBI cases to help facilitate timely resolution.
  • Administers internal database access, permissions, and security, and helps provide system training for employees.
  • Works with SBI on system enhancements for both new and existing features
  • Coordinates with both Axicom and SBI to facilitate resolution when system issues involve both groups.
  • Assists with hardware changes/upgrades as needed.
  • Responds to emergency calls after hours and facilitates resolution as needed
  • Attend weekly Zoom production meetings to present and update the management team on issues being serviced and progress of projects

Education, Prior Work Experience and Specialized Skills and Knowledge

  • At least 5 years of systems platform computer experience & 1 year of database management experience

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to work independently and make sound decisions as well as being part of a team, maintaining professional courtesy and demeanor.

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish PREFERRED

  • Ability to maintain a database and insure its updated

  • Ability to conduct data analysis and generate reports

  • Ability to perform basic IT troubleshooting, before escalating issues

  • Ability to work under pressure, in a fast-paced environment and multi-task

  • Be computer literate with the Windows operating system, Google products, and cloud networks. SBI experience PREFERRED.

  • College degree PREFERRED

Compensation

Hourly rate: will commensurate with experience

Physical Environment/Working Conditions

Can requires extensive use of back, legs, knees, arms, feet and hands for lifting, stooping, squatting, bending, twisting, kneeling, pulling, pushing, reaching overhead, and walking. Unassisted lifting limits up to 50 lbs. Individuals may be required to do any or all of these situations throughout the work day, with an emphasis on walking and standing for a major portion of the day.
